Working with Greg Watson and Royal United Mortgage

When I recently wanted to explore the possibility of refinancing my mortgage with cash out, I signed up with Lending Tree. I heard that Lending Tree was started here in Charlotte NC, and that it was a legitimate organization of lenders. I was soon deluged with contacts from various lenders. The one that actually got through to me was Greg Watson from Royal United. I was immediately swept up on a wild cyber ride! I was led through pages and pages of of online documents on my computer screen explaining about loans and the process of applying, while Greg was explaining to me over the phone what I was reading. I was also the signing documents with an electronic signature to indicate that I had been presented with the information. This was a bit overwhelming and I was afraid that I was signing stuff that I would have no record of later on. As it turned out, I did get a computer packet of this material that I could go back and look at.
I had never heard previously of Royal United Mortgage at all, and knew nothing about them and their reputation. Yet Greg Watson, in that very first online meeting, convinced me to get out my VISA credit card and make a payment of of $570 for an appraisal of my townhouse. I was quite terrified and felt very foolish that I had allowed this to happen. I thought, oh well, this could happen to anyone, and now it was my turn to be scammed online. However I took a deep breath and decided to see how this would proceed now that I had gone this far, and also I resolved that no more money would be forthcoming from me. This Greg Watson did seem quite knowledgeable about the whole mortgage refinance process.
My scepticism and fear was fueled by the online internet process. After this first session I looked for a Better Business Bureau report, and saw that, apparently, Royal United had a rating of A . I also saw that they had a physical address in Indianapolis, Indiana. I began to relax a little. But I always had some uneasiness, not being knowledgeable about what to expect of the loan process. Greg Watson was quite reassuring as things went forward.
Now I must mention something called "e-consent." This concept was presented at the very beginning of the process of going through those pages and pages of instructional documents that the customer would indicate that he had read and understood by "e-signing" them. It was clearly stated that a customer of the loan company could not proceed with this loan process unless he could give his "e-consent." And In order to give his "e-consent" the customer would have to possess a computer with internet access, certain specified software, and a printer. If the customer did not meet these requirements, he would withhold "e-consent" and paper documents would be provided at not charge.
I myself do not have a functioning printer/scanner, and I made this known to Greg, but was allowed to continue with the loan process, though I feel I should not have been. At least I do have a computer with internet access. And using my cellphone I was able, by the hardest, to get tolerable copies of certain documents in to the company.
I think that there is perhaps a certain inherent dishonesty built in to this process. Royal United is an internet company. Whether entirely or not I don't know. I do not know if they see loan customers in person at their address in Indianapolis. At one point in my loan process I pulled my "e-consent" in frustration. I just had to have at least the most important documents in "hard copy," that is on paper.
I have found Greg Watson to be an honest, personable, likeable, knowledgeable, tolerant, hardworking and responsible loan agent, willing to go the last mile to get that loan through, and yes, to make that sale.
To some extent, my comments and attitudes and fears about online business are those of someone who is two generations older. The photos I have seen of Royal United show a young workforce, who have grown up on the internet, and who perhaps, would like to do nothing on paper? Is this possible?

Amazing Customer Service

In todays day and age where Customer Service seems to be a bonus instead of a standard practice I was amazingly surprised at the level of service Greg provided. It isn’t often that you complete any type of transaction feeling as if it was a family member taking care of your needs but that is exactly how my experience with Greg went. He was very prompt, professional and honest with every aspect of this transaction but again the bonus was knowing and feeling as if his customers truly matter. Greg, you are a breath of fresh air in a world that desperately needs more people like you! I would recommend Greg 1000 times over and look forward to working with him again in the future.
